Basking Ridge, N.J. – November 21, 2008 – Affinity Federal Credit Union (AFCU) celebrated Veterans Day with a special luncheon to award those who have participated in the Veterans Learning Institute, a division of the Hope for Veterans® Program that provides financial tutoring, over the past year.

“After the service veterans have provided our country, giving back through the financial aid classes was the least we could do. We hope that these classes serve as a means to help them get back on their feet financially,” states Lisabeth Degnan, Affinity Foundation executive director. “Both the volunteers, who serve as financial education and job search tutors, and the students involved have gained invaluable learning tools and more importantly, have built everlasting relationships with one another.”

“We cannot thank Affinity and its program volunteers enough for the time and resources given to our veterans during this learning session. Affinity has been one of the earliest supporters of the Hope for Veterans Program since opening our doors in the summer of 2004,” said Carmela Lunt, president and founder of Community Hope. “They have been a partner in the truest sense of the word and we look forward to continuing the relationship with another class session.”

Classes were held through the Hope for Veterans facility located on the campus of the Lyons Veterans Affairs Hospital in Bernards Township; the next class session will begin in January and run through 2009.

The Hope for Veterans Program is a transitional housing and rehabilitation program, developed and operated by the nonprofit organization Community Hope, serving those who honorably served our country.
