Community Hope Director Receives American Legion Annual Award at Statewide Convention
Parsippany, NJ – Morristown resident Jennifer Stivers was honored with the Annual Statewide Homeless Veterans Outreach Award by the American Legion, Department of New Jersey at the Legion’s annual convention recently in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Presenting the award was Department Commander James E. Amos, Jr. in recognition of Ms. Stivers’ outstanding role in serving homeless veterans in New Jersey.
Stivers is Director of Community Hope’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program. Community Hope is the largest organization in New Jersey serving homeless veterans. Ms. Stivers said her program is expected to serve as many as 750 veterans and veteran families in need of homelessness prevention or rapid re-housing this year. She explained that these families have been threatened by homelessness for various reasons, including returning soldiers unable to find jobs with a live-able wage to support themselves and their families to combat veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress and other war injuries.
Stivers said her SSVF Program maintains a 24-hour referral hotline for New Jersey and PA veteran families in need of assistance at 1-855-483-8466.
